SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
Public Laws 1867, p. 36-37, Sec. 1

    Amends "An Act to renew the Great Seal of State", approved March 7, 1867. Provides that the State seal shall bear the date "December 3, 1818", in recognition of the date of Illinois' statehood, and that date shall replace any other date appearing on the State seal before the effective date of this Amendatory Act. Provides that any further additions or changes made to the design of the seal on or after the effective date of this amendatory Act shall be wholly within the discretion of the Secretary of State. Effective immediately.

1    AN ACT concerning government.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. "An Act to renew the Great Seal of State,"
5approved March 7, 1867, is amended by changing Section 1 as
6follows:
 
7    (Public Laws 1867, p. 36-37, Sec. 1)
8    Sec. 1. Be it enacted by the People of the State of
9Illinois, represented in the General Assembly, That the
10secretary of state is hereby authorized and required to renew
11the great seal of state, and to procure it as nearly as
12practicable of the size, form and intent of the seal now in
13use, and conforming with the original design, as follows:
14"American eagle on a boulder in prairie-the sun rising in
15distant horizon," and scroll in eagle's beak, on which shall be
16inscribed the words: "State Sovereignty," "National Union," to
17correspond with the original seal of state, in every
18particular. The seal of state shall bear the date "December 3,
191818," in recognition of the date of Illinois' statehood, and
20that date shall replace any other date appearing on the seal of
21state before the effective date of this Amendatory Act of the
22100th General Assembly. Any further additions or changes made
23to the design of the seal on or after the effective date of

1this amendatory Act of the 100th General Assembly shall be
2wholly within the discretion of the Secretary of State.
 
3    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
4becoming law.
