| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Fred Walker Robbins of Edwardsville, who |
| 4 | | passed away on July 1, 2011; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, He was born March 11, 1943 in Martinsville, |
| 6 | | Virginia, the son of Fred Michael and Mary Walker (Ford) |
| 7 | | Robbins; on June 5, 1965, he married Stephanie Laird (Malinoff) |
| 8 | | Robbins; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, He was a professor of English at Southern Illinois |
| 10 | | University at Edwardsville from 1970 to 2001; while on the |
| 11 | | faculty, he served as editor of the SIUE literary magazine |
| 12 | | Sou'wester; he earned his Ph.D in English from the University |
| 13 | | of Texas at Austin in 1970 and his Bachelor of arts degree from |
| 14 | | Wofford College in Spartanburg, South Carolina in 1965; and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, He was an avid upland game hunter and trout |
| 16 | | fisherman, and spent much of his free time hunting game birds |
| 17 | | in Illinois' State parks, with frequent expeditions to |
| 18 | | Michigan, Mississippi, and elsewhere; he took pride in the 5 |
| 19 | | Brittanies he raised for bird hunting, especially his first |
| 20 | | dog, Belle, and his last dog, Vicky; and

| 21 | | WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents; and by |
