| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, |
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:

| 4 | | Section 5. The Fire Sprinkler Dormitory Act is amended by |
| 5 | | changing Section 10 as follows:

| 7 | | Sec. 10. Fire sprinkler systems required. Subject to the |
| 8 | | establishment of a fire sprinkler dormitory revolving loan |
| 9 | | program under Section 15 of this Act, fire sprinkler systems |
| 10 | | are required in the dormitories of all post-secondary |
| 11 | | educational institutions by 2013, unless a post-secondary |
| 12 | | educational institution files a compliance plan with the Office |
| 13 | | of the State Fire Marshal, approved by the Office, by January |
| 14 | | 1, 2013. The compliance plan shall include a detailed timeline |
| 15 | | that outlines completion of the planned sprinkler system |
| 16 | | installations. The Office of the State Fire Marshal may, at its |
| 17 | | discretion, require periodic updates from a post-secondary |
| 18 | | educational institution to document its efforts to comply with |
| 19 | | this Act. All sprinkler installations required by this Act |
| 20 | | shall be completed and operational by December 31, 2014. A |
| 21 | | violation of this Section is a business offense punishable by a |
| 22 | | fine of not more than $1,000 per day. This requirement includes |
| 23 | | current structures as well as newly constructed dormitories. |
