Provides for the issuance of special license plates for vehicles owned by a fire department or fire protection district or by a chief officer of a fire department or fire protection district. Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides that, beginning with the 2008 registration year, permanent plates shall be issued, at a one-time fee of $8, for a vehicle owned by the fire department of a municipality or a fire protection district, or owned by a chief officer of the fire department if the chief officer is authorized by the corporate authorities of the municipality or fire protection district to use the vehicle as an emergency response vehicle. Provides for the markings on these plates.</SynopsisText><synopsistitle>House Amendment No. 2</synopsistitle>
<SynopsisText>Provides that, in addition to being issued for a vehicle owned by a fire department, these plates shall be issued only for a vehicle owned by the chief of a fire department or the chief's first deputy officer, and only if (i) the chief or the chief's first deputy officer is authorized by the corporate authorities of the municipality or fire protection district to use the vehicle as an emergency response vehicle and (ii) the fire department does not provide a vehicle for the chief or the chief's first deputy officer.</SynopsisText><synopsistitle>Senate Committee Amendment No. 1</synopsistitle>
