<reference>105 ILCS 5/21-1</reference><aliasreference>from Ch. 122, par. 21-1</aliasreference><SynopsisText>     Amends the School Code. Beginning July 1, 2004, provides that issuance or renewal of a teaching certificate is contingent upon certification in first aid and CPR. Requires the State Board of Education to adopt rules for continuing education in first aid and CPR.</SynopsisText><synopsistitle>House Amendment No. 1</synopsistitle>
<SynopsisText>Removes the requirement that renewal of a teaching certificate is contingent upon the applicant demonstrating that he or she holds current certification in first aid and CPR. Provides that the State Board of Education shall accept First Aid and CPR/AED certificates from the American Red Cross, the American Heart Association, or any other nationally recognized certifying agency approved by the Department of Public Health as sufficient documentation to qualify as an approved continuing education program.</SynopsisText></synopsis>
