| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
| 3 | | to learn of the death of Spencer Leak Jr. of Chicago, who |
| 4 | | passed away on May 31, 2026; and |
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Spencer Leak began working for the historic, |
| 6 | | family-owned business, Leak and Sons Funeral Homes, as a young |
| 7 | | boy, dedicating his life to the family trade; he earned a |
| 8 | | Bachelor of Science in Mortuary Science and Funeral Service |
| 9 | | from Southern Illinois University Carbondale, and he became a |
| 10 | | licensed funeral director in 1989; and |
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Spencer Leak served as vice president of Leak and |
| 12 | | Sons Funeral Homes, which has served the Chicagoland community |
| 13 | | with dignity and compassion for more than 90 years; as a |
| 14 | | third-generation owner, he modernized the business's |
| 15 | | technology and operations while personally overseeing |
| 16 | | thousands of funerals each year; and |
| 17 | | WHEREAS, As a generous and community-minded leader, |
| 18 | | Spencer Leak gave back in countless ways; he was an active |
| 19 | | member of 100 Black Men of America, where he mentored young |
| 20 | | African American males, and he served on the boards of |
| 21 | | Operation PUSH and the Better Boys Foundation, which provides |
| 22 | | tutoring and support for youth in need; and |
