SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Spencer Leak Jr. of Chicago, who
4passed away on May 31, 2026; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Spencer Leak began working for the historic,
6family-owned business, Leak and Sons Funeral Homes, as a young
7boy, dedicating his life to the family trade; he earned a
8Bachelor of Science in Mortuary Science and Funeral Service
9from Southern Illinois University Carbondale, and he became a
10licensed funeral director in 1989; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Spencer Leak served as vice president of Leak and
12Sons Funeral Homes, which has served the Chicagoland community
13with dignity and compassion for more than 90 years; as a
14third-generation owner, he modernized the business's
15technology and operations while personally overseeing
16thousands of funerals each year; and
 
17    WHEREAS, As a generous and community-minded leader,
18Spencer Leak gave back in countless ways; he was an active
19member of 100 Black Men of America, where he mentored young
20African American males, and he served on the boards of
21Operation PUSH and the Better Boys Foundation, which provides
22tutoring and support for youth in need; and

1    WHEREAS, Spencer Leak was a proud member of Kappa Alpha
2Psi Fraternity, Inc., Liberty Baptist Church, and the Illinois
3Funeral Directors Association; he was recognized in Who's Who
4of Black Chicago and received the Men of Excellence Award from
5the Chicago Defender; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Above all, Spencer Leak was a devoted family man
7who was the loving husband of Dr. Donna Leak and the proud
8father of Spencer Leak III and Emma Sophia Leak; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Spencer Leak's passing leaves a profound void in
10the Chicagoland community, the funeral service profession, and
11the many lives he touched through his work, leadership, and
12quiet generosity; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
15Spencer Leak Jr. and extend our sincere condolences to his
16family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
17further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Spencer Leak as an expression of our
20deepest sympathy.
