Tom Bennett SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED: | | | Amends the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity Law of the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois. Provides that the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity shall establish a program to award grants to units of local government for the purposes of demolishing or repairing commercial buildings that are detrimental to public health or safety as a result of dilapidation, obsolescence, deterioration, or the failure of the building to meet minimum code standards. |

| 1 | | AN ACT concerning State government. |
| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, |
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly: |
| 4 | | Section 5. The Department of Commerce and Economic |
| 5 | | Opportunity Law of the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois |
| 6 | | is amended by adding Section 605-1130 as follows: |
| 7 | | (20 ILCS 605/605-1130 new) |
| 8 | | Sec. 605-1130. Local government building repair and |
| 9 | | demolition grant program. Subject to appropriation, the |
| 10 | | Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity shall |
| 11 | | establish a program to award grants to units of local |
| 12 | | government for the purposes of demolishing or repairing |
| 13 | | commercial buildings that are detrimental to public health or |
| 14 | | safety as a result of one or more of the following: |
| 15 | | dilapidation; obsolescence; deterioration; or the failure of |
| 16 | | the building to meet minimum building code standards. The |
| 17 | | Department may adopt rules to implement and administer the |
| 18 | | grant program created by this Section. |
