AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 1653




2    AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend Senate Bill 1653 by replacing 
3everything after the enacting clause with the following:

 
 
4    "Section 5. The Illinois Highway Code is amended  by adding 
5Section 4-225 as follows:
 
6    (605 ILCS 5/4-225 new)
7    Sec. 4-225. Low-clearance early warning device pilot 
8program. The Department shall establish a pilot program to 
9erect early warning devices on or near bridges or viaducts in 
10this State. Early warning devices may include, but are not 
11limited to, LiDAR, radar, visual signals, or additional 
12signage. The Department may work with interested stakeholders 
13to identify bridges and viaducts for the erection of early 
14warning devices on roads outside of the Department's 
15jurisdiction. The pilot program shall include, but is not 
16limited to, evaluating the effectiveness of an early warning

1device, design specifications, and estimated costs. The 
2Department may adopt administrative rules regarding the pilot 
3program. The Department or local authority responsible for 
4maintaining an early warning device may impose a fine on a 
5motorist who damages an early warning device. The fine shall 
6not exceed the cost to repair the device.".
