Amends the Environmental Protection Act. Provides that, on and after January 1, 2022, a retailer who sells to a customer in this State shall provide the customer with the option to receive a receipt via email. Effective immediately.

| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
| 4 | | Section 5. The Environmental Protection Act is amended by |
| 5 | | changing and renumbering Section 22.59 as follows:
|
| 6 | | (415 ILCS 5/22.61)
|
| 7 | | Sec. 22.61 22.59. Regulation of bisphenol A in business |
| 8 | | transaction paper. |
| 9 | | (a) For purposes of this Section, "thermal paper" means |
| 10 | | paper with bisphenol A added to the coating. |
| 11 | | (b) Beginning January 1, 2020, no person shall manufacture, |
| 12 | | for sale in this State, thermal paper. |
| 13 | | (c) No person shall distribute or use any thermal paper for |
| 14 | | the making of business or banking records, including, but not |
| 15 | | limited to, records of receipts, credits, withdrawals, |
| 16 | | deposits, or credit or debit card transactions. This subsection |
| 17 | | shall not apply to thermal paper that was manufactured prior to |
| 18 | | January 1, 2020. |
| 19 | | (d) The prohibition in subsections (a) and (b) shall not |
| 20 | | apply to paper containing recycled material.

| 21 | | (e) On and after January 1, 2022, a retailer who sells to a |
| 22 | | customer in this State shall provide the customer with the |
| 23 | | option to receive a receipt via email. |
