| 1 | | AN ACT concerning transportation.

| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:

| 4 | | Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by adding |
| 5 | | Section 3-699.22 as follows:
|

| 7 | | Sec. 3-699.22. Defense Superior Service plates. The |
| 8 | | Secretary, upon receipt of an application made in the form |
| 9 | | prescribed by the Secretary, may issue special registration |
| 10 | | plates designated as Defense Superior Service license plates to |
| 11 | | recipients awarded the Defense Superior Service Medal by a |
| 12 | | branch of the armed forces of the United States who reside in |
| 13 | | this State. The special plates issued pursuant to this Section |
| 14 | | shall be affixed only to passenger vehicles of the first |
| 15 | | division, motorcycles, and motor vehicles of the second |
| 16 | | division weighing not more than 8,000 pounds. The Secretary may |
| 17 | | allow the plates to be issued as vanity or personalized plates |
| 18 | | in accordance with Section 3-405.1 of this Code. The Secretary |
| 19 | | shall make a version of the special registration plates |
| 20 | | authorized under this Section in a form appropriate for |
| 21 | | motorcycles. |
| 22 | | The design and color of the plates shall be wholly within |
| 23 | | the discretion of the Secretary. No registration fee, including |
