| 1 | | AN ACT concerning transportation.

| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
| 4 | | Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by adding |
| 5 | | Section 3-699.17 as follows: |
| 6 | | (625 ILCS 5/3-699.17 new) |
| 7 | | Sec. 3-699.17. Cold War license plates. |
| 8 | | (a) In addition to any other special license plate, the |
| 9 | | Secretary, upon receipt of all applicable fees and applications |
| 10 | | made in the form prescribed by the Secretary of State, may |
| 11 | | issue Cold War license plates to residents of Illinois who |
| 12 | | served in the United States Armed Forces between August 15, |
| 13 | | 1945 and January 1, 1992. The special Cold War plates issued |
| 14 | | under this Section shall be affixed only to passenger vehicles |
| 15 | | of the first division, motorcycles, and motor vehicles of the |
| 16 | | second division weighing not more than 8,000 pounds. Plates |
| 17 | | issued under this Section shall expire according to the |
| 18 | | staggered multi-year procedure established by Section 3-414.1 |
| 19 | | of this Code. |
| 20 | | (b) The design, color, and format of the plates shall be |
| 21 | | wholly within the discretion of the Secretary of State. The |
| 22 | | Secretary may, in his or her discretion, allow the plates to be |
| 23 | | issued as vanity plates or personalized in accordance with |
