AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 254 




2    AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 254 by replacing 
3everything after the enacting clause with the following:

 
 
4    "Section 5. The School Code is amended  by adding Sections 
52-3.136a, 10-20.69, and 34-18.61 as follows:
 
6    (105 ILCS 5/2-3.136a new)
7    Sec. 2-3.136a. Class size report.
8    (a) In this Section: 
9    "Class" means a setting in which organized instruction of 
10academic course content is regularly provided to a group of 
11students for a given scheduled period of time.
12    "Class instructor" means a teacher who has been assigned to 
13teach students in a class at a public school.
14    "Class section" means a single class where a class 
15instructor is assigned to teach more than one class per school 
16day.

1    "Class size" means the number of students in a class who 
2appear on the class roster and for whom the class instructor is 
3primarily responsible and accountable.
4    "Pupil-teacher ratio" means the total number of students in 
5a school divided by the total number of teachers working in 
6that school.
7    "Teacher" means an individual instructing students at a 
8public school.
9    (b) No later than January 31, 2021, and annually 
10thereafter, the State Board of Education must make available on 
11its website all of the following information:
12        (1) The total number of teachers actively employed 
13    within each school district, listed by individual school.
14        (2) The pupil-teacher ratios for each school district.
15        (3) The number of class instructors, by grade level and 
16    subject, in each school district.
17        (4) The class size for each class and class section at 
18    each school in a school district and the total number of 
19    classes or class sections in each school that exceeds the 
20    class size guidelines under paragraph (2) of subsection (b) 
21    of Section 18-8.15.
 
22    (105 ILCS 5/10-20.69 new)
23    Sec. 10-20.69. Class size reporting. No later than November 
2416, 2021, and annually thereafter, each school district must 
25report to the State Board of Education information on the

1school district described under subsection (b) of Section 
22-3.136a and must  make that information available on its 
3website.

5    Sec. 34-18.61. Class size reporting. No later than November 
616, 2021, and annually thereafter, the school district must 
7report to the State Board of Education information on the 
8school district described under subsection (b) of Section 
92-3.136a and must make that information available on its 
10website.".
