| 1 | AN ACT concerning education.
| ||||||
| 2 | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
| ||||||
| 3 | represented in the General Assembly:
| ||||||
| 4 | Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Sections | ||||||
| 5 | 2-3.136a, 10-20.69, and 34-18.61 as follows: | ||||||
| 6 | (105 ILCS 5/2-3.136a new) | ||||||
| 7 | Sec. 2-3.136a. Class size report. | ||||||
| 8 | (a) In this Section: | ||||||
| 9 | "Class" means a setting in which organized instruction of | ||||||
| 10 | academic course content is regularly provided to a group of | ||||||
| 11 | students for a given scheduled period of time. | ||||||
| 12 | "Class instructor" means a teacher who has been assigned to | ||||||
| 13 | teach students in a class at a public school. | ||||||
| 14 | "Class section" means a single class where a class | ||||||
| 15 | instructor is assigned to teach more than one class per school | ||||||
| 16 | day. | ||||||
| 17 | "Class size" means the number of students in a class who | ||||||
| 18 | appear on the class roster and for whom the class instructor is | ||||||
| 19 | primarily responsible and accountable. | ||||||
| 20 | "Pupil-teacher ratio" means the total number of students in | ||||||
| 21 | a school divided by the total number of teachers working in | ||||||
| 22 | that school. | ||||||
| 23 | "Teacher" means an individual instructing students at a | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | public school. | ||||||
| 2 | (b) No later than January 31, 2021, and annually | ||||||
| 3 | thereafter, the State Board of Education must make available on | ||||||
| 4 | its website all of the following information: | ||||||
| 5 | (1) The total number of teachers actively employed | ||||||
| 6 | within each school district, listed by individual school. | ||||||
| 7 | (2) The pupil-teacher ratios for each school district. | ||||||
| 8 | (3) The number of class instructors, by grade level and | ||||||
| 9 | subject, in each school district. | ||||||
| 10 | (4) The class size for each class and class section at | ||||||
| 11 | each school in a school district and the total number of | ||||||
| 12 | classes or class sections in each school that exceeds the | ||||||
| 13 | class size guidelines under paragraph (2) of subsection (b) | ||||||
| 14 | of Section 18-8.15. | ||||||
| 15 | (105 ILCS 5/10-20.69 new) | ||||||
| 16 | Sec. 10-20.69. Class size reporting. No later than November | ||||||
| 17 | 16, 2021, and annually thereafter, each school district must | ||||||
| 18 | report to the State Board of Education information on the | ||||||
| 19 | school district described under subsection (b) of Section | ||||||
| 20 | 2-3.136a and must make that information available on its | ||||||
| 21 | website. | ||||||
| 22 | (105 ILCS 5/34-18.61 new) | ||||||
| 23 | Sec. 34-18.61. Class size reporting. No later than November | ||||||
| 24 | 16, 2021, and annually thereafter, the school district must | ||||||

| 1 | report to the State Board of Education information on the | ||||||
| 2 | school district described under subsection (b) of Section | ||||||
| 3 | 2-3.136a and must make that information available on its | ||||||
| 4 | website.
