| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Kenneth |
| 4 | | Dion Hutchinson of Chicago, who passed away on October 18, |
| 5 | | 2017; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Kenneth Hutchinson was born in Chicago to Leslie |
| 7 | | and Kenneth Hutchinson on December 26, 1981; he attended |
| 8 | | Goodlow Elementary School and Lindblom College Preparatory |
| 9 | | High School, where he was involved in many activities, |
| 10 | | including wrestling, Senior Brother's Council, and was |
| 11 | | President of the National Honor Society; he and his future |
| 12 | | wife, LaSandra, attended high school together, founded the |
| 13 | | Student Action Committee, and attended Northwestern University |
| 14 | | together; they were married on June 5, 2004; and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Kenneth Hutchinson graduated from Northwestern |
| 16 | | University with a degree in social policy and studied abroad in |
| 17 | | Ghana, West Africa; he co-directed Northwestern's gospel choir |
| 18 | | and the Northwestern Community Ensemble; he worked as a |
| 19 | | work-study student in Northwestern's undergraduate admissions |
| 20 | | which allowed him the opportunity to continue in undergraduate |
| 21 | | admissions as the Assistant Director and Co-Coordinator of |
| 22 | | African American Recruitment after graduation; he grew |
| 23 | | passionate about increasing college access for students from |
|

| 1 | | underrepresented groups; after Northwestern, he began serving |
| 2 | | as the founding Director of College Counseling for Urban Prep |
| 3 | | Charter Academy for Young Men - Englewood Campus; and |
| 4 | | WHEREAS, At Urban Prep, Kenneth Hutchinson led |
| 5 | | college-counseling efforts and was charged with helping to |
| 6 | | ensure the school accomplished its goal of a 100% college |
| 7 | | acceptance rate for every graduate of the school; his |
| 8 | | persistence soon paid off, as students were placed in summer |
| 9 | | enrichment programs at colleges and universities around the |
| 10 | | world, including Thailand, Argentina, Ghana, South Africa, |
| 11 | | China, Mexico, England, the Dominican Republic, and Costa Rica; |
| 12 | | during his six years with the organization, he designed an |
| 13 | | approach to college counseling that led him to successfully |
| 14 | | achieve their goal of a 100% college acceptance rate; and |
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Kenneth Hutchinson attended the Harvard |
| 16 | | University Graduate School of Education's Institute for Urban |
| 17 | | School Leaders and graduated with a Master of Science and |
| 18 | | Communication from Northwestern University; he served on a |
| 19 | | variety of boards and programs in the education sector, |
| 20 | | including Penn State University's Multicultural Resource |
| 21 | | Center's Black Male Empowerment Group; he was a reader and |
| 22 | | National Ambassador for the Bill Gates Millennium Scholarship; |
| 23 | | and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Kenneth Hutchinson was baptized at Christ Temple |
| 2 | | Apostolic Faith Church in October 2001; he ministered through |
| 3 | | Oasis Bible Study, preaching and teaching on a variety of |
| 4 | | college campuses including Northwestern University, Princeton |
| 5 | | University, Wesleyan University, and the University of Cape |
| 6 | | Coast in Ghana; in 2015, he joined the All Nations Worship |
| 7 | | Assembly, where he served on the worship team, the prophetic |
| 8 | | team, and the deliverance team; and |
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Kenneth Hutchinson joined the Cristo Rey Network |
| 10 | | in September 2015 as the Director of College Initiatives; among |
| 11 | | his greatest accomplishments was fostering a collaborative |
| 12 | | community of nearly 70 college counselors and alumni advisors, |
| 13 | | whose roles were similar to the one he previously had at Urban |
| 14 | | Prep; and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Kenneth Hutchinson was a loving father who shared |
| 16 | | countless funny sayings and inside jokes with his family; and
|
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Kenneth Hutchinson is survived by his wife, |
| 18 | | LaSandra Nicole Hutchinson; his son, Noah; his daughters, |
| 19 | | Noelle, Bella, and Halle; his mother, Leslie Matthews |
| 20 | | (Theodore); his father, Kenneth (Debra) Hutchinson; his |
| 21 | | brother, Maurice (Kemba) Hendrix; his stepbrothers, Quentin |
| 22 | | Ray and Antonio Ray (Aisha); his sisters, Sade Hutchinson and |
| 23 | | Kendra Jenkins; his mother-in-law, Lucille (Michael) Green; |

| 1 | | his brother-in-law, Roderick Houston; his nieces, Laila, |
| 2 | | Alyssa, and Jayden; and an extended family of beloved aunts, |

| 5 | | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 6 | | mourn the passing of Kenneth Dion Hutchinson, and extend our |
| 7 | | sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew |
