| 1 | | AN ACT concerning transportation.
|
| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, |
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
| 4 | | Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by adding |
| 5 | | Section 3-699 as follows: |
| 6 | | (625 ILCS 5/3-699 new) |
| 7 | | Sec. 3-699. Legion of Merit plates. |
| 8 | | The Secretary, upon receipt of an application made in the |
| 9 | | form prescribed by the Secretary of State, may issue special |
| 10 | | registration plates designated as Legion of Merit license |
| 11 | | plates to recipients awarded the Legion of Merit by a branch of |
| 12 | | the armed forces of the United States who reside in Illinois. |
| 13 | | The special plates issued pursuant to this Section should be |
| 14 | | affixed only to passenger vehicles of the 1st division, |
| 15 | | including motorcycles, or motor vehicles of the 2nd division |
| 16 | | weighing not more than 8,000 pounds. The Secretary may, in his |
| 17 | | or her discretion, allow the plates to be issued as vanity or |
| 18 | | personalized plates in accordance with Section 3-405.1 of this |
| 19 | | Code. The Secretary of State must make a version of the special |
| 20 | | registration plates authorized under this Section in a form |
| 21 | | appropriate for motorcycles. |
| 22 | | The design and color of such plates shall be wholly within |
| 23 | | the discretion of the Secretary of State. No registration fee, |
