| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
| 3 | to learn of the death of Robert K. "Bob" Cowles of Springfield, | ||||||
| 4 | who passed away on May 26, 2023; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Bob Cowles was born to William D. and Eloise | ||||||
| 6 | Cowles in Springfield on November 5, 1947; he graduated from | ||||||
| 7 | Feitshans High School in 1965; he enlisted in the U.S. Army, | ||||||
| 8 | serving from 1966 through 1969, during which he was stationed | ||||||
| 9 | with the 11th Light Infantry Brigade of the Americal Division | ||||||
| 10 | in Vietnam in 1968 and obtained the rank of staff sergeant; his | ||||||
| 11 | military decorations included the Combat Infantryman Badge, | ||||||
| 12 | the Bronze Star, and the Purple Heart; he married Shirley | ||||||
| 13 | Calhoun in 1970; he graduated from the University of Illinois | ||||||
| 14 | at Urbana-Champaign in 1974; and
| ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, Bob Cowles was a licensed professional engineer, | ||||||
| 16 | working in state government and private practice; he retired | ||||||
| 17 | in 2008; and
| ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, Bob Cowles was a member of St. Agnes Church, St. | ||||||
| 19 | Paul's Lodge No. 500, Valley of Springfield, and Ansar Shrine; | ||||||
| 20 | he was a past commander of Hayes/Krell Chapter 159 of the | ||||||
| 21 | Military Order of the Purple Heart and a past senior vice | ||||||
| 22 | commander of VFW LaFore Lock Post 755; he was also a member of | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | the Lake Press Club and the Springfield Ski Club; | ||||||
| 2 | additionally, he served as a referee for high school and | ||||||
| 3 | competitive soccer for many years; and
| ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, Bob Cowles possessed a heart of gold, often | ||||||
| 5 | either volunteering or donating to charitable causes, and he | ||||||
| 6 | was known for always lending a helping hand to veterans and | ||||||
| 7 | friends; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Bob Cowles was preceded in death by his parents; | ||||||
| 9 | his brothers, William J. Cowles and John Cowles; and his | ||||||
| 10 | sister, Bonnie Cowles; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Bob Cowles is survived by his wife, Shirley; his | ||||||
| 12 | sons, Jason (Kendra) Cowles and Jamie (Rachael) Cowles; his | ||||||
| 13 | grandsons, Cullen, Cooper, and Loden Cowles; his | ||||||
| 14 | granddaughter, Clara Cowles; and several nieces and nephews; | ||||||
| 15 | therefore, be it

| 16 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | ||||||
| 17 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
| 18 | Robert K. "Bob" Cowles and extend our sincere condolences to | ||||||
| 19 | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
| 20 | further
| ||||||
| 21 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
