| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
| 3 | | to learn of the death of Niolis Collazo, who passed away on May |
| 4 | | 6, 2023; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Niolis Collazo was born to Orlando Collazo and |
| 6 | | Nitza Rivera in San Turce, Puerto Rico on December 17, 1999; as |
| 7 | | a child, she moved to Illinois with her mother and younger |
| 8 | | siblings; as a student, she excelled academically, served as a |
| 9 | | vocalist in her school and church choirs, and was regarded as a |
| 10 | | volleyball phenomenon and a strong debate team member; she |
| 11 | | graduated from Waukegan High School in 2018, and she earned |
| 12 | | her bachelor's degree in social work from the University of |
| 13 | | Wisconsin Oshkosh in 2022; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, After earning her degree, Niolis Collazo served |
| 15 | | as a counselor and mentor for Youth Guidance's Working on |
| 16 | | Womanhood (WOW) program at Edith M. Smith Middle School within |
| 17 | | Waukegan Community Unit School District 60; she also coached |
| 18 | | the freshman boys volleyball team at Waukegan High School; |
| 19 | | during her tenure, albeit brief, she made an indelible mark on |
| 20 | | students, student athletes, and staff alike; and
|
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Niolis Collazo was an amazing daughter, sister, |
| 22 | | niece, friend, coach, counselor, and confidant who possessed a |
