AN ACT concerning transportation.
| ||||
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
| ||||
represented in the General Assembly:
| ||||
Section 5. The Department of Transportation Law of the
| ||||
Civil Administrative Code of Illinois is amended by adding | ||||
Section 2705-625 as follows: | ||||
(20 ILCS 2705/2705-625 new) | ||||
Sec. 2705-625. Safety improvements to State roads for | ||||
pedestrians and cyclists. The Department shall develop a | ||||
policy which ensures the safety of pedestrians and cyclists on | ||||
roadways within this State. The policy shall provide that | ||||
improvements will be made during routine maintenance and | ||||
within a distance of 500 feet of the maintenance work to any | ||||
State roads within a municipality to include, but not be | ||||
limited to, high visibility signage, crosswalk improvements, | ||||
curb bump outs, barrier protected bike lanes, and bus | ||||
shelters. | ||||
Beginning January 1, 2024, the Department shall provide a | ||||
semi-annual report to the General Assembly on pedestrian and | ||||
bicycle safety improvements on non-highway State routes that | ||||
have been initiated, are in progress, or are recently | ||||
completed. The Department shall provide the reports every June | ||||
30th and January 1st thereafter.

Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon | ||
becoming law. | ||
