| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The State of Illinois recognizes the importance | ||||||
| 3 | of higher education as a vital component of workforce | ||||||
| 4 | development, economic growth, and personal advancement; and | ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Many students in Illinois balance professional | ||||||
| 6 | responsibilities and family obligations during the day, making | ||||||
| 7 | evening education programs essential to their academic and | ||||||
| 8 | career progress; and | ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Night courses and programs at Illinois colleges | ||||||
| 10 | and universities provide crucial opportunities for | ||||||
| 11 | non-traditional students, working adults, and career changers | ||||||
| 12 | to pursue degrees and further their education without | ||||||
| 13 | sacrificing their employment; and | ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, These programs offer pathways for students to | ||||||
| 15 | build real-world skills and enhance their professional | ||||||
| 16 | experience while continuing to contribute to the State's | ||||||
| 17 | workforce and economy; and | ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, The availability of night courses expands access | ||||||
| 19 | to education, promotes workforce readiness, and strengthens | ||||||
| 20 | Illinois' economic competitiveness; and | ||||||

| 1 | WHEREAS, Budgetary cuts and program cancellations threaten | ||||||
| 2 | the continuation of these vital educational opportunities, | ||||||
| 3 | placing undue barriers on students seeking flexible learning | ||||||
| 4 | options; therefore, be it | ||||||
| 5 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 6 | HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 7 | we express our strong support for the continued offering and | ||||||
| 8 | expansion of night courses and programs at Illinois colleges | ||||||
| 9 | and universities; and be it further | ||||||
| 10 | RESOLVED, That we urge higher education institutions and | ||||||
| 11 | governing bodies to prioritize and protect night programs from | ||||||
| 12 | budgetary cuts or elimination; and be it further | ||||||
| 13 | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | ||||||
| 14 | delivered to the Illinois Board of Higher Education and the | ||||||
| 15 | Illinois Community College Board to share with the presidents | ||||||
| 16 | of public and private colleges and universities throughout | ||||||
| 17 | Illinois. | ||||||
