SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Elizabeth Leigh "Lizzie" Dykstra of Savoy, who passed away on January 22, 2025; and

WHEREAS, Lizzie Dykstra, the daughter of Greg and Joan Dykstra, was born in Urbana on July 8, 1981; she graduated from Urbana Middle School, formerly known as Prairie Elementary School, and the Urbana SPH (severe/profound handicapped) program; and

WHEREAS, Lizzie Dykstra served as a minister and witness of her faith, which involved assisting her father through making salvation wrist beads and helping distribute them, including sharing them with strangers; her silent ministry was featured in a chapter of a book by author Kendra Smiley; and

WHEREAS, Lizzie Dykstra enjoyed traveling with her parents throughout the U.S. and the Caribbean, whether it was camping or cruising; she especially enjoyed visiting the Savoy Walmart to see her favorite employees, whose kindness made her smile; and

WHEREAS, Lizzie Dykstra, even with her profound disabilities, led a precious and valuable life while making a meaningful impact on hundreds of lives; and

WHEREAS, Lizzie Dykstra is survived by her parents; her brother and sister-in-law, Phil and Abbie; her niece and nephew, Sophie and Alex; and her many relatives and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Elizabeth Leigh "Lizzie" Dykstra and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Lizzie Dykstra as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
