SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Harold Alexander "Sandy" Stewart of Murphysboro, who passed away on January 3, 2025; and

WHEREAS, Harold Stewart was born to John Cutbert and Majorie (Smith) Stewart in Detroit, Michigan on August 7, 1940; he graduated from Bentley High School in Livonia, Michigan in 1958; he married Carol Smith on September 8, 1962; he received several degrees from the University of Michigan, including a Bachelor of Science in 1963, a Bachelor of Science in Forestry in 1964, and a master's degree in wood technology in 1967; he was a member of the Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity at the University of Michigan; and

WHEREAS, Harold Stewart worked for the USDA Forest Service Laboratory as a wood research scientist in Carbondale and retired in 1987; he then worked for the Forest Products Laboratory at Mississippi State University in Starkville, Mississippi as a wood research scientist until 2003; and

WHEREAS, Harold Stewart was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, R. Bruce (Janie) Stewart, John C. Stewart, and Richard "Dick" (Patricia) Stewart; and his brother-in-law, Robert R. "Bobby" Smith; and

WHEREAS, Harold Stewart is survived by his wife, Carol; his son, Brian A. Stewart (Teresa A. Marine); his daughters, Carrie A. Stewart (Wesley T. Scholl) and Cassandra "Casey" M. Stewart (Dwayne E. Hardin); and his sister-in-law, Michelle "Shellie" (Wasser) Smith; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Harold Alexander "Sandy" Stewart and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Harold Stewart as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
