SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of John E. Salzer of East Peoria, who passed away on November 23, 2025; and

WHEREAS, John Salzer was born to Trevlin and Margaret (Edwards) Salzer in Peoria on August 28, 1949; he graduated from East Peoria Community High School in 1967; he earned his degree in engineering from Bradley University; he married Barbara Ervin in Peoria on December 6, 1974; and

WHEREAS, John Salzer worked with Peoria Local 649 of the International Union of Operating Engineers from 1973 to 2009; and

WHEREAS, John Salzer served Msgr. E.L. Grzybowski Council 7580 of the Knights of Columbus in many capacities, including as Grand Knight from 1997 to 1998; he was also a member of Spalding Assembly 0206 of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus; he was awarded the title Knight of Knights, the highest honor, by the Peoria Diocese Chapter of the Knights of Columbus in 2012; and

WHEREAS, John Salzer was a lifelong member of St. Monica Catholic Church in East Peoria; he was also one of the original founders, organizers, and chairpersons for the drive-through Folepi Narrated Nativity display in East Peoria; and

WHEREAS, John Salzer was preceded in death by his sister, Sheila; his brother, Dick; and one infant brother; and

WHEREAS, John Salzer is survived by his wife of 50 years, Barbara Salzer; his children, Tracie Crawford, Kristie (Scott) Garver, and Joe (Kelly) Salzer; his brothers, Bob Salzer and Phil (Nancy) Salzer; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of John E. Salzer and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of John Salzer as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
