| 1 | SENATE RESOLUTION | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
| 3 | to learn of the death of James Lee "Jim" Hootman of Cuba, who | ||||||
| 4 | passed away on August 9, 2025; and | ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Jim Hootman was born to Jes and Melba Hootman in | ||||||
| 6 | Kingston Mines on October 26, 1934; he served in both the | ||||||
| 7 | United States Navy and Army, and he spent more than two years | ||||||
| 8 | deployed in Germany; he married Irmalee "Irma" "Irmie" Barnes | ||||||
| 9 | on July 5, 1953, and she preceded him in death on February 22, | ||||||
| 10 | 2019; and | ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Jim Hootman was a lifelong farmer in rural Cuba; | ||||||
| 12 | he loved his farm, referring to his land as "God's country"; he | ||||||
| 13 | also loved his Allis Chalmers tractors, and in recent years, | ||||||
| 14 | he took great pride in his little New Holland tractor he named | ||||||
| 15 | "The Brute"; while farming and raising livestock, he worked at | ||||||
| 16 | Keystone Steel and Wire for 37 years; and | ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, Jim Hootman was a longtime member of the Cuba | ||||||
| 18 | Christian Church; he and his wife, Irma, enjoyed entertaining | ||||||
| 19 | and hosting people at their home, and they never shied away | ||||||
| 20 | from partaking in a good dance or a card game; and | ||||||
| 21 | WHEREAS, Jim Hootman was a man of his word, a | ||||||

| 1 | conversationalist, and a hardworking individual who provided a | ||||||
| 2 | great life for the family he cherished so much; despite facing | ||||||
| 3 | many different health problems as he aged, he maintained a | ||||||
| 4 | positive attitude and always tried to lift the spirits of | ||||||
| 5 | those around him; and | ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Jim Hootman was preceded in death by his parents | ||||||
| 7 | and his brother, Bill Hootman; and | ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Jim Hootman is survived by his children, Debbie | ||||||
| 9 | (Jeff) Raymond and Tim (Annabel) Hootman; four grandchildren; | ||||||
| 10 | one great-granddaughter; and his sister, Becky Christian; | ||||||
| 11 | therefore, be it | ||||||
| 12 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 13 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
| 14 | James Lee "Jim" Hootman and extend our sincere condolences to | ||||||
| 15 | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
| 16 | further | ||||||
| 17 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 18 | presented to the family of Jim Hootman as an expression of our | ||||||
| 19 | deepest sympathy. | ||||||
