| 1 | SENATE RESOLUTION | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
| 3 | to learn of the death of Margaret Elizabeth "Beth" Strow, | ||||||
| 4 | M.D., who passed away on September 23, 2025; and | ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Dr. Strow was born to Dr. Wallace F. Strow Sr. and | ||||||
| 6 | Margaret Miller Strow in Springfield on May 22, 1955; she | ||||||
| 7 | attended Sacred Heart Academy and the University of Illinois; | ||||||
| 8 | she received a Master of Nursing with a pediatric | ||||||
| 9 | neurosurgical subspecialty at the University of Illinois | ||||||
| 10 | Chicago; she earned a Doctor of Medicine from the Southern | ||||||
| 11 | Illinois University School of Medicine in 1984, and she became | ||||||
| 12 | board certified in internal medicine and completed her | ||||||
| 13 | dermatology residency at Emory University; she married David | ||||||
| 14 | Reid in 1988; and | ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, Dr. Strow was a beloved figure in the medical | ||||||
| 16 | community; she initially worked as a nurse at Children's | ||||||
| 17 | Hospital of Chicago at Northwestern University; after | ||||||
| 18 | completing her residency at Emory University, she opened her | ||||||
| 19 | own dermatology practice in Springfield in 1992, where she | ||||||
| 20 | shared her unique ability to connect with patients and make | ||||||
| 21 | them feel heard; and | ||||||
| 22 | WHEREAS, Dr. Strow served as an online community leader | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | for the Melanoma Research Alliance; and | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, Dr. Strow, affectionately called "Marmee" by her | ||||||
| 3 | grandchildren, enjoyed running, skiing, and traveling the | ||||||
| 4 | world; and | ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Dr. Strow was known as a force of nature, and her | ||||||
| 6 | nerves of steel were only outmatched by her heart of gold; she | ||||||
| 7 | will be remembered as an incredible mother and grandmother who | ||||||
| 8 | made normal days special and holidays, especially Christmas, | ||||||
| 9 | spectacular; and | ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Dr. Strow was preceded in death by her parents; | ||||||
| 11 | and | ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Dr. Strow is survived by her husband of 37 years, | ||||||
| 13 | David Reid; her daughters, Catherine "Cat" Reid and Sarah | ||||||
| 14 | (Tom) Reid Fletcher; her stepson, David B. (Rebecca) Reid; two | ||||||
| 15 | grandchildren; her siblings, Dr. Wallace F. (Anh) Strow Jr., | ||||||
| 16 | Dr. Susan (Dr. Jim) Stegeman, Brian Strow, and Karen Strow; | ||||||
| 17 | her stepmother, Patricia Strow; her nieces and nephews; and | ||||||
| 18 | many friends; therefore, be it | ||||||
| 19 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 20 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
| 21 | Margaret Elizabeth "Beth" Strow, M.D. and extend our sincere | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved | ||||||
| 2 | her; and be it further | ||||||
| 3 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 4 | presented to the family of Dr. Strow as an expression of our | ||||||
| 5 | deepest sympathy. | ||||||
