SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Margaret Elizabeth "Beth" Strow, M.D., who passed away on September 23, 2025; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Strow was born to Dr. Wallace F. Strow Sr. and Margaret Miller Strow in Springfield on May 22, 1955; she attended Sacred Heart Academy and the University of Illinois; she received a Master of Nursing with a pediatric neurosurgical subspecialty at the University of Illinois Chicago; she earned a Doctor of Medicine from the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in 1984, and she became board certified in internal medicine and completed her dermatology residency at Emory University; she married David Reid in 1988; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Strow was a beloved figure in the medical community; she initially worked as a nurse at Children's Hospital of Chicago at Northwestern University; after completing her residency at Emory University, she opened her own dermatology practice in Springfield in 1992, where she shared her unique ability to connect with patients and make them feel heard; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Strow served as an online community leader for the Melanoma Research Alliance; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Strow, affectionately called "Marmee" by her grandchildren, enjoyed running, skiing, and traveling the world; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Strow was known as a force of nature, and her nerves of steel were only outmatched by her heart of gold; she will be remembered as an incredible mother and grandmother who made normal days special and holidays, especially Christmas, spectacular; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Strow was preceded in death by her parents; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Strow is survived by her husband of 37 years, David Reid; her daughters, Catherine "Cat" Reid and Sarah (Tom) Reid Fletcher; her stepson, David B. (Rebecca) Reid; two grandchildren; her siblings, Dr. Wallace F. (Anh) Strow Jr., Dr. Susan (Dr. Jim) Stegeman, Brian Strow, and Karen Strow; her stepmother, Patricia Strow; her nieces and nephews; and many friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Margaret Elizabeth "Beth" Strow, M.D. and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Dr. Strow as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
