HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Alderman Walter Burnett
4Jr. on the occasion of his retirement after 30 years of serving
5the people of Chicago's 27th Ward; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Alderman Burnett has served Chicago's 27th Ward
7with distinction, integrity, and tireless dedication for the
8past 30 years, making him one of the longest-serving aldermen
9in the City of Chicago's history; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Alderman Burnett was first elected in 1995 and
11since then has been a steadfast advocate for affordable
12housing, economic development, community safety, and equitable
13opportunity for all residents; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Alderman Burnett's leadership has been
15instrumental in transforming neighborhoods across the 27th
16Ward, from the revitalization of the Near West Side to the
17economic resurgence of the West Loop, while ensuring that
18long-standing communities remained heard and included in the
19city's progress; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Alderman Burnett has exemplified the values of
21service, accessibility, and compassion throughout his tenure

1and has often been seen walking the ward, attending block club
2meetings, mentoring young leaders, and serving as a bridge
3between government and the people; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Alderman Burnett's retirement marks not an end
5but a transition into a new chapter where his impact will
6continue to resonate through the lives he has touched, the
7policies he has shaped, and the communities he has empowered;
8therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
10HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
11we congratulate Alderman Walter Burnett Jr. on his retirement
12after 30 years of serving the people of Chicago 27th Ward and
13express our deepest gratitude for his unwavering service and
14leadership; and be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to Alderman Burnett as a lasting token of our
17respect, appreciation, and best wishes for continued success
18in all future endeavors.
