| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate Alderman Walter Burnett |
| 4 | | Jr. on the occasion of his retirement after 30 years of serving |
| 5 | | the people of Chicago's 27th Ward; and |
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Alderman Burnett has served Chicago's 27th Ward |
| 7 | | with distinction, integrity, and tireless dedication for the |
| 8 | | past 30 years, making him one of the longest-serving aldermen |
| 9 | | in the City of Chicago's history; and |
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Alderman Burnett was first elected in 1995 and |
| 11 | | since then has been a steadfast advocate for affordable |
| 12 | | housing, economic development, community safety, and equitable |
| 13 | | opportunity for all residents; and |
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Alderman Burnett's leadership has been |
| 15 | | instrumental in transforming neighborhoods across the 27th |
| 16 | | Ward, from the revitalization of the Near West Side to the |
| 17 | | economic resurgence of the West Loop, while ensuring that |
| 18 | | long-standing communities remained heard and included in the |
| 19 | | city's progress; and |
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Alderman Burnett has exemplified the values of |
| 21 | | service, accessibility, and compassion throughout his tenure |

| 2 | | meetings, mentoring young leaders, and serving as a bridge |

| 4 | | WHEREAS, Alderman Burnett's retirement marks not an end |
| 5 | | but a transition into a new chapter where his impact will |
| 6 | | continue to resonate through the lives he has touched, the |
| 7 | | policies he has shaped, and the communities he has empowered; |
| 8 | | therefore, be it |
| 9 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
