SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Starved Rock State Park holds significant historical and cultural importance to the residents of the State of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, The name Starved Rock has become synonymous with the natural beauty and heritage of our State for over 100 years, attracting visitors from across the nation and contributing to the local economy; and

WHEREAS, Recent discussions regarding the potential renaming of Starved Rock State Park have raised concerns among residents and local businesses regarding the impact such a change could have on local communities' identities and the tourism industry; and

WHEREAS, It is crucial for the General Assembly to reaffirm its support for maintaining the name Starved Rock State Park and emphasize its significance to the local community's brand identity and cultural heritage; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we express our unwavering support for the name Starved Rock State Park, and we recognize its importance to the local community and its brand identity; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we acknowledge the concerns raised by residents and local businesses regarding the potential renaming of Starved Rock State Park, and we pledge to advocate for the preservation of the park's historic name; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we encourage open dialogue and collaboration with relevant stakeholders, including Tribal Nations and Indigenous communities, to address concerns and explore ways to honor the park's heritage while respecting diverse perspectives; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be delivered to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and Governor JB Pritzker.
