HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate the Mu Alpha Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. on the 21st anniversary of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship initiative, which will be celebrated on January 18, 2025; and

WHEREAS, Mu Alpha Lambda Chapter (546) is the alumni chapter of Northern Illinois University and was chartered on February 7, 1975 by nine former members of the Epsilon Phi Chapter; and

WHEREAS, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. has prominent, community-focused membership and includes three members of the Illinois House of Representatives, Speaker Emanuel "Chris" Welch, State Representative Justin Slaughter, and State Representative Maurice West; and

WHEREAS, For the past 21 years, the Mu Alpha Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. has uplifted young people and celebrated Alpha Phi Alpha member Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King through the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship initiative; and

WHEREAS, Throughout the last 21 years, the Mu Alpha Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. has demonstrated resilience, ingenuity, and a steadfast commitment to progress; and

WHEREAS, The members of Mu Alpha Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. have mentored more than 150 young men from the Rockford region and have donated over $325,000 in scholarships to support young men of color attending college or a university; and

WHEREAS, The Mu Alpha Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. has thrived with its character shaped by the collective efforts of its organization and members; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the Mu Alpha Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. for their continuous commitment to our youth and contributions to the success and prosperity of our great state on the occasion of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship initiative's 21st anniversary; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we recognize January 18, 2025 as a day to honor the past, embrace the present, and envision a promising future for the Mu Alpha Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and the people of Illinois; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Mu Alpha Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. as an expression of our esteem and respect.
