SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Alma Lee Buhnerkempe of Chatham, who passed away on April 28, 2025; and

WHEREAS, Alma Buhnerkempe was born in Springfield to Billie (Huber) and Michael Buhnerkempe on July 10, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Alma Buhnerkempe was a second grader at Chatham Elementary School, and each day, she would head to school with a smile on her face, excited to learn and play with her friends; and

WHEREAS, Alma Buhnerkempe aspired to be an artist and loved to paint; she also played piano and loved to dance while attempting to make YouTube videos; and

WHEREAS, Alma Buhnerkempe was a social butterfly who could talk to anyone and had a strong sense of community, fostered by the Girl Scouts; she was a devoted sister and loved spending time with her family, especially her cousins; she had an infectious energy, a goofy sense of humor, and a sense of compassion that was boundless; and

WHEREAS, Alma Buhnerkempe loved sports, especially gymnastics; she could often be found on the soccer field or basketball court with her Queen Bees, laughing and playing with a group of friends that were nearly inseparable; she was a budding Illinois basketball, LA Galaxy, and STL City fan and enjoyed popcorn and ice cream at many games; and

WHEREAS, Alma Buhnerkempe had the heart of an explorer; she visited 17 states and loved discovering new places, with her favorite place being Walt Disney World; and

WHEREAS, Alma Buhnerkempe was preceded in death by her grandfather, Anthony Huber; and

WHEREAS, Alma Buhnerkempe is survived by her parents; her brother, Will; her grandparents, Dana and Kurt Armstrong and Barb and John Buhnerkempe; her aunts and uncles, Lauren (Darby) Sabo, Deric (Amanda) Armstrong, Morgan (James) Scheffers, Jeff (Emily) Buhnerkempe, and Tommy Buhnerkempe; and her cousins, Otto, Mack, Cole, Cameron, Noah, Hadley, Harper, Aaron, and Mason; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Alma Lee Buhnerkempe and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Alma Buhnerkempe as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
