SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to congratulate the United States Navy on its 250th anniversary; and

WHEREAS, The U.S. Navy was founded on October 13, 1775 when the Continental Congress agreed to supply Gen. George Washington with an armed schooner and a sloop; and

WHEREAS, The U.S. Navy has been used successfully in the American Revolution, World War I, World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, Desert Shield, Desert Storm, Operation Enduring Freedom, and Operation Iraqi Freedom; and

WHEREAS, The U.S. Navy is comprised of men and women who are consummate professionals even while serving in some of the harshest environments and putting their lives at risk; and

WHEREAS, The U.S. Navy embodies the values of honor, courage, and commitment, inspiring generations of American citizens to serve and defend their county; and

WHEREAS, The U.S. Navy plays a critical role in the defense of the United States and in preserving the lives and liberties of its citizens; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the United States Navy on its 250th anniversary.
