AN ACT concerning education.

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly:

Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Section 2-3.206 as follows:

(105 ILCS 5/2-3.206 new)

Sec. 2-3.206. Educators' experience teaching history; research and professional learning opportunities.

(a) Subject to appropriation, the State Board of Education shall conduct research using mixed methodologies to understand the experience of educators in this State teaching history to students across all grade levels in accordance with applicable learning standards and mandated units of study. This shall include, but not be limited to, surveying how instructional resources are being funded and incorporated into instruction, participation in professional learning opportunities, and educators' experience and comfort in implementing inclusive-history-mandated units of study. The State Board of Education shall report its findings and recommendations from this research to the General Assembly by December 15, 2026.

(b) Subject to appropriation, the State Board of Education shall provide professional learning opportunities for educators across all grade levels to further support the inclusive, inquiry-based teaching of history in schools in this State.

Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon becoming law.
