HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Neonatal Nurses Week, also known as Neonatal
3Intensive Care Unit Nurses Week, is an annual celebration of
4the hard work and dedication of the nurses who take care of
5babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU); and
 
6    WHEREAS, The NICU is a unit in a hospital that provides
7around-the-clock special care to sick or preterm babies from
8health care providers who have special training and equipment
9to give babies the best possible care; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Common health conditions treated in the NICU
11include birth defects, breathing problems, feeding issues,
12gastroschisis, infections, jaundice, problems maintaining a
13normal body temperature, problems maintaining normal sugar
14levels, retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP), and surgical
15conditions; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Every baby in a NICU is cared for by many
17different health care professionals, including registered
18nurses, nurse managers, neonatal nurse practitioners, clinical
19nurse specialists, developmental care specialists, and charge
20nurses; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Neonatal nurses perform life-saving and

1life-changing work each day to help ensure children can lead
2healthy and successful lives; therefore, be it
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
4HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
5we declare September 13-19, 2025 as Neonatal Nurses Week in
6the State of Illinois; and be it further
 
7    RESOLVED, That we encourage the celebration of neonatal
8nurses for the skill, professionalism, and care they provide
9to newborn babies.
