| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, Neonatal Nurses Week, also known as Neonatal | ||||||
| 3 | Intensive Care Unit Nurses Week, is an annual celebration of | ||||||
| 4 | the hard work and dedication of the nurses who take care of | ||||||
| 5 | babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU); and | ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, The NICU is a unit in a hospital that provides | ||||||
| 7 | around-the-clock special care to sick or preterm babies from | ||||||
| 8 | health care providers who have special training and equipment | ||||||
| 9 | to give babies the best possible care; and | ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Common health conditions treated in the NICU | ||||||
| 11 | include birth defects, breathing problems, feeding issues, | ||||||
| 12 | gastroschisis, infections, jaundice, problems maintaining a | ||||||
| 13 | normal body temperature, problems maintaining normal sugar | ||||||
| 14 | levels, retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP), and surgical | ||||||
| 15 | conditions; and | ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, Every baby in a NICU is cared for by many | ||||||
| 17 | different health care professionals, including registered | ||||||
| 18 | nurses, nurse managers, neonatal nurse practitioners, clinical | ||||||
| 19 | nurse specialists, developmental care specialists, and charge | ||||||
| 20 | nurses; and | ||||||
| 21 | WHEREAS, Neonatal nurses perform life-saving and | ||||||

| 1 | life-changing work each day to help ensure children can lead | ||||||
| 2 | healthy and successful lives; therefore, be it | ||||||
| 3 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 4 | HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 5 | we declare September 13-19, 2025 as Neonatal Nurses Week in | ||||||
| 6 | the State of Illinois; and be it further | ||||||
| 7 | RESOLVED, That we encourage the celebration of neonatal | ||||||
| 8 | nurses for the skill, professionalism, and care they provide | ||||||
| 9 | to newborn babies. | ||||||
