SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Dr. Akintunde Bowden, formerly of Chicago, who passed away on April 19, 2025; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Bowden was born to Nathaniel and Vena Bowden in Chicago on July 26, 1983; he was raised in the Englewood neighborhood of Chicago, which shaped his resilience, character, and dedication towards serving the community; he graduated from the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) College of Dentistry; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Bowden dedicated his entire professional career to public service, serving faithfully as the dental director of Milwaukee Health Services; from the moment he graduated until his passing, he committed himself fully to the care of his community, working tirelessly to uplift those around him while touching countless lives with his skill, kindness, and unwavering commitment; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Bowden was an incredibly generous and loving individual, and his actions consistently reflected his deep compassion for others; he made it a priority to give back to those in need, whether through donating, volunteering his time, or simply offering a helping hand; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Bowden's greatest joy was his family; he served as a source of pride and comfort to his parents, as a protector, an encourager, and a confidant to his siblings, and as a devoted and loving partner to his wife; to all who knew him, he was beloved for his humility, unwavering faith, and gentle spirit; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Bowden's life was a true testament of love, faith, courage, and service, and his legacy will continue to inspire all who carry his memory forward; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Bowden was preceded in death by his sister, Kimberly Bowden; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Bowden is survived by his spouse, Teresa Bell; his parents; his siblings, Joseph Bowden, Sakeenah Bowden, Dr. Ogbonna Bowden, Camara (Dantea) Bowden, Nia Bowden, Kenyam (Komlan) Bowden, and Dr. Adeniji (Danielle) Bowden; his nieces and nephews; and a host of extended family, friends, and colleagues; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Dr. Akintunde Bowden and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Dr. Bowden as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
