| 3 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | |||||||||||||||||||
| 4 | HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE | |||||||||||||||||||
| 5 | SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that there shall be submitted to the | |||||||||||||||||||
| 6 | electors of the State for adoption or rejection at the general | |||||||||||||||||||
| 7 | election next occurring at least 6 months after the adoption | |||||||||||||||||||
| 8 | of this resolution a proposition to amend the Illinois | |||||||||||||||||||
| 9 | Constitution by changing Section 2 of Article 5 as follows: | |||||||||||||||||||
| 10 | ARTICLE V | |||||||||||||||||||
| 11 | THE EXECUTIVE | |||||||||||||||||||
| 12 | (ILCON Art. V, Sec. 2) | |||||||||||||||||||
| 13 | SECTION 2. TERMS | |||||||||||||||||||
| 14 | (a) These elected officers of the Executive Branch shall | |||||||||||||||||||
| 15 | hold office for four years beginning on the second Monday of | |||||||||||||||||||
| 16 | January after their election and, except in the case of the | |||||||||||||||||||
| 17 | Lieutenant Governor, until their successors are qualified. | |||||||||||||||||||
| 18 | They shall be elected at the general election in 1978 and every | |||||||||||||||||||
| 19 | four years thereafter. | |||||||||||||||||||
| 20 | (b) A person may not serve more than two terms of office as | |||||||||||||||||||
| 21 | Governor. A person who has served two terms as Governor may not | |||||||||||||||||||
| 22 | serve another term of office in that office. | |||||||||||||||||||
| 23 | A person is considered to serve a term of office for the | |||||||||||||||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | purpose of this subsection if the person is elected or | ||||||
| 2 | appointed to serve any portion of the term. | ||||||

| 4 | SCHEDULE | ||||||
| 5 | This Constitutional Amendment takes effect upon being | ||||||
| 6 | declared adopted in accordance with Section 7 of the Illinois | ||||||
| 7 | Constitutional Amendment Act and applies to the gubernatorial | ||||||
| 8 | election in 2030 and thereafter. | ||||||
