| 3 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | |||||||||||||||||||
| 4 | HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE | |||||||||||||||||||
| 5 | SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that there shall be submitted to the | |||||||||||||||||||
| 6 | electors of the State for adoption or rejection at the general | |||||||||||||||||||
| 7 | election next occurring at least 6 months after the adoption | |||||||||||||||||||
| 8 | of this resolution a proposition to add Section 2.5 to Article | |||||||||||||||||||
| 9 | IV, amend Section 2 of Article V, and amend Section 3 of | |||||||||||||||||||
| 10 | Article VIII of the Illinois Constitution as follows: | |||||||||||||||||||
| 11 | ARTICLE V | |||||||||||||||||||
| 12 | THE EXECUTIVE | |||||||||||||||||||
| 13 | (ILCON Art. V, Sec. 2) | |||||||||||||||||||
| 14 | SECTION 2. TERMS | |||||||||||||||||||
| 15 | (a) These elected officers of the Executive Branch shall | |||||||||||||||||||
| 16 | hold office for four years beginning on the second Monday of | |||||||||||||||||||
| 17 | January after their election and, except in the case of the | |||||||||||||||||||
| 18 | Lieutenant Governor, until their successors are qualified. | |||||||||||||||||||
| 19 | They shall be elected at the general election in 1978 and every | |||||||||||||||||||
| 20 | four years thereafter. | |||||||||||||||||||
| 21 | (b) A person may not be elected to the office of Governor | |||||||||||||||||||
| 22 | for terms totalling more than 8 years. Service prior to the | |||||||||||||||||||
| 23 | date of the adoption of this amendment to the Illinois | |||||||||||||||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | Constitution shall be considered in the calculation of a | ||||||
| 2 | person's service. Any person holding the office of Governor at | ||||||
| 3 | the time of the adoption of this amendment to the Illinois | ||||||
| 4 | Constitution who meets the term limitation set by this Section | ||||||
| 5 | shall be allowed to complete his or her term of office. | ||||||

| 8 | This Constitutional Amendment takes effect upon being | ||||||
| 9 | declared adopted in accordance with Section 7 of the Illinois | ||||||
| 10 | Constitutional Amendment Act. | ||||||
