| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate the Dyett High School | ||||||
| 4 | boys basketball team, the Eagles, on winning the 2024-2025 | ||||||
| 5 | Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Class 2A State | ||||||
| 6 | Championship, a historic and inspiring achievement for the | ||||||
| 7 | school and the Bronzeville community; and | ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, The Eagles secured its first state championship | ||||||
| 9 | in school history with a 52-41 victory over Althoff Catholic | ||||||
| 10 | High School of Belleville at the State Farm Center in | ||||||
| 11 | Champaign on March 15, 2025; and | ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, The Eagles' inaugural win is especially | ||||||
| 13 | meaningful given Dyett High School's remarkable journey, | ||||||
| 14 | having once faced closure in 2015 before community advocacy | ||||||
| 15 | and determination kept its doors open; a decade later, the | ||||||
| 16 | high school has risen to the pinnacle of athletic success, | ||||||
| 17 | symbolizing the resilience, strength, and unity of its | ||||||
| 18 | students, faculty, alumni, and community supporters; and | ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, The Eagles' players have demonstrated skill, | ||||||
| 20 | discipline, and unity throughout the season, overcoming | ||||||
| 21 | challenges and competing at the highest level to earn their | ||||||
| 22 | place as champions; and | ||||||

| 1 | WHEREAS, Members of the Eagles, whose hard work and | ||||||
| 2 | teamwork brought this championship to fruition, include Aramis | ||||||
| 3 | Brown Jr., Jahmir Brown, Immanuel Carter, Rickey Coleman, | ||||||
| 4 | Cornell Dunbar, Johntae Duncan, Mikai Harris, Jacob Johnson, | ||||||
| 5 | Christian Lowe, Jayden McKinnon, Devon Shelton, Ahmari Taylor, | ||||||
| 6 | Zaire Tobar, and Matthew Wilson; and | ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, The Eagles are led by Head Coach Jamaal Gill, | ||||||
| 8 | whose leadership and vision guided the team to victory, along | ||||||
| 9 | with Assistant Coaches Kimani Harris, Pierre Adams, and Nathan | ||||||
| 10 | Townsen Jr., whose dedication and mentorship were vital to the | ||||||
| 11 | team's success; and | ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, The Eagles' historic championship win has brought | ||||||
| 13 | pride and joy to the Bronzeville community and stands as a | ||||||
| 14 | beacon of what is possible through hard work, perseverance, | ||||||
| 15 | and community support; and | ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, The Eagles' success further represents the power | ||||||
| 17 | of public education and investment in youth development with | ||||||
| 18 | athletics serving as a pathway to opportunity and empowerment; | ||||||
| 19 | therefore, be it | ||||||
| 20 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 21 | HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||

| 1 | we congratulate the Dyett High School boys basketball team, | ||||||
| 2 | the Eagles, on winning the 2024-2025 IHSA Class 2A State | ||||||
| 3 | Championship, and we honor its members for their perseverance | ||||||
| 4 | and excellence and the inspiration they provide to all | ||||||
| 5 | Illinoisans; and be it further | ||||||
| 6 | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | ||||||
| 7 | presented to the principal and administration of Dyett High | ||||||
| 8 | School and to the players, coaches, and staff of the Dyett High | ||||||
| 9 | School boys basketball team as a symbol of our respect, | ||||||
| 10 | admiration, and esteem. | ||||||
