HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Clarence
4Thomas, who passed away on February 26, 2025; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Clarence Thomas was born to Viola (Wordlaw) and
6Henry Thomas on January 9, 1953; he graduated from Austin High
7School in 1971; he attended the University of Wisconsin
8Oshkosh; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Clarence Thomas served as the supervisor of
10building and grounds for Maywood-Melrose Park-Broadview School
11District 89, demonstrating his commitment to education and his
12community's infrastructure; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Clarence Thomas began his political career as a
14precinct captain for the 29th Ward Democratic Organization in
151975; his career spanned across five decades while he served
16as an adviser on congressional, statewide, and county races
17for various candidates running for the U.S. Senate, Governor,
18State's Attorney, and county board seats; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Clarence Thomas was elected as a trustee of
20Proviso Township in 2017, and he was reelected in 2021,
21holding that position until his passing; and

1    WHEREAS, Clarence Thomas served on the board of the
2Campaign For a Drug Free Westside from 2008 to 2020; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Clarence Thomas was a devoted father, committed
4public servant, and tireless community advocate whose greatest
5pride was his family and the numerous young men he mentored
6throughout the years; his political acumen and dedication will
7inspire generations to come; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Clarence Thomas was preceded in death by his
9parents; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Clarence Thomas is survived by his children,
11Malcolm (Shawn) Smith, Dauwn (Mario) Houston, Taya (Jeremi)
12Bryant, Marcus (Dawn) Thomas, and Jada Thomas; ten
13grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
15HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
16we mourn the passing of Clarence Thomas and extend our sincere
17condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
18him; and be it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Clarence Thomas as an expression
