| 1 | AN ACT concerning local government. | |||||||||||||||||||
| 2 | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, | |||||||||||||||||||
| 3 | represented in the General Assembly: | |||||||||||||||||||
| 4 | Section 5. The Illinois Police Training Act is amended by | |||||||||||||||||||
| 5 | changing Section 10.11 as follows: | |||||||||||||||||||
| 6 | (50 ILCS 705/10.11) | |||||||||||||||||||
| 7 | Sec. 10.11. Training; death and homicide investigation. | |||||||||||||||||||
| 8 | The Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board shall | |||||||||||||||||||
| 9 | conduct or approve a training program in death and homicide | |||||||||||||||||||
| 10 | investigation for the training of law enforcement officers of | |||||||||||||||||||
| 11 | local law enforcement agencies and Department of Corrections | |||||||||||||||||||
| 12 | internal security investigators. Only law enforcement officers | |||||||||||||||||||
| 13 | and Department of Corrections internal security investigators | |||||||||||||||||||
| 14 | who successfully complete the training program may be assigned | |||||||||||||||||||
| 15 | as lead investigators in death and homicide investigations. | |||||||||||||||||||
| 16 | Satisfactory completion of the training program shall be | |||||||||||||||||||
| 17 | evidenced by a certificate issued to the law enforcement | |||||||||||||||||||
| 18 | officer or investigator by the Illinois Law Enforcement | |||||||||||||||||||
| 19 | Training Standards Board. | |||||||||||||||||||
| 20 | The Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board | |||||||||||||||||||
| 21 | shall develop a process for waiver applications sent by a | |||||||||||||||||||
| 22 | local governmental agency administrator or the Department of | |||||||||||||||||||
| 23 | Corrections for those officers or investigators whose prior | |||||||||||||||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | training and experience as homicide investigators may qualify | ||||||
| 2 | them for a waiver. The Board may issue a waiver at its | ||||||
| 3 | discretion, based solely on the prior training and experience | ||||||
| 4 | of an officer or investigator as a homicide investigator. This | ||||||
| 5 | Section does not affect or impede the powers of the office of | ||||||
| 6 | the coroner to investigate all deaths as provided in Division | ||||||
| 7 | 3-3 of the Counties Code and the Coroner Training Board Act. | ||||||
