| 1 | SENATE RESOLUTION | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
| 3 | to learn of the death of Deanna "Dee" Dean Funk, who passed | ||||||
| 4 | away on January 25, 2025; and | ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Deanna Funk was born to John Lewis Dean and Faye | ||||||
| 6 | Jenny Winslow Dean in Akron, Ohio on March 21, 1939; she | ||||||
| 7 | received her Bachelor of Arts in Speech Pathology from | ||||||
| 8 | Northwestern University in 1961; she married Donald Hay Funk, | ||||||
| 9 | and they eventually moved to Springfield; and | ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Deanna Funk was a devoted housewife and mother of | ||||||
| 11 | two who opened her own art business, specializing in | ||||||
| 12 | needlepoint, embroidery, fabric dyeing, and various other | ||||||
| 13 | artistic techniques; she traveled to showcase her work, | ||||||
| 14 | passionately sharing her techniques and insights with others, | ||||||
| 15 | always eager to inspire those who wanted to learn; and | ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, Deanna Funk was a member of the Westminster | ||||||
| 17 | Presbyterian Church; she was also a member of the Junior | ||||||
| 18 | League, the Anti-Rust Club, Questers, the Abraham Lincoln | ||||||
| 19 | Association, and the Embroiders Guild of America; she was a | ||||||
| 20 | longstanding member of the Springfield Art Association, where | ||||||
| 21 | she dedicated her time to volunteering due to being driven by | ||||||
| 22 | her passion for artwork and her desire to inspire others; and | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | WHEREAS, Deanna Funk considered being a grandmother her | ||||||
| 2 | greatest accomplishment, and she was affectionately known as | ||||||
| 3 | "Nana"; she always made it a priority to be there for her | ||||||
| 4 | family; and | ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Deanna Funk had many passion projects and hobbies | ||||||
| 6 | that she taught and passed down to her grandchildren, | ||||||
| 7 | including art and genealogy; and | ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Deanna Funk was preceded in death by her parents; | ||||||
| 9 | her husband of 61 years, Donald; and her brother, John | ||||||
| 10 | Franklin Dean; and | ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Deanna Funk is survived by her children, Anne | ||||||
| 12 | Funk and Donald (Layna) Funk; two granddaughters; her niece | ||||||
| 13 | and nephew, Michelle (Michael Borenstein) and John Dean; her | ||||||
| 14 | sister-in-law, Jeanne Dean; and many grandnieces and | ||||||
| 15 | grandnephews; therefore, be it | ||||||
| 16 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 17 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
| 18 | Deanna "Dee" Dean Funk and extend our sincere condolences to | ||||||
| 19 | her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | ||||||
| 20 | further | ||||||

| 1 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 2 | presented to the family of Deanna Funk as an expression of our | ||||||
| 3 | deepest sympathy. | ||||||
