| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to recognize Brett's First Responders on | ||||||
| 4 | its continued efforts in serving families of first responders | ||||||
| 5 | who are facing tragedy and financial hardship; and | ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Brett's First Responders was created in honor of | ||||||
| 7 | Firefighter Brett A. Korves of the Swansea Fire Department, | ||||||
| 8 | who was killed when an individual evading police hit his car at | ||||||
| 9 | a high rate of speed in April 2019, leaving behind his wife, | ||||||
| 10 | Alex, his 18-month-old son, Brock, and a unborn daughter, who | ||||||
| 11 | was later named Brett Grace after her father; while his family | ||||||
| 12 | received incredible support from family, friends, and the | ||||||
| 13 | community, they did not qualify for other types of financial | ||||||
| 14 | support due to his being killed outside the line of duty; and | ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, Brett's First Responders was created to assist | ||||||
| 16 | families of first responders who find themselves facing | ||||||
| 17 | situations similar to that of the family of Brett Korves, | ||||||
| 18 | ensuring all families of first responders have support during | ||||||
| 19 | times of tragedy and financial hardship; and | ||||||
| 20 | WHEREAS, Brett's First Responders provides financial | ||||||
| 21 | support to families of first responders killed in | ||||||
| 22 | circumstances outside the line of duty or those enduring | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | sickness, injury, or significant financial hardships unrelated | ||||||
| 2 | to their careers as first responders; the organization also | ||||||
| 3 | provides grants to first responder cadet programs in need of | ||||||
| 4 | financial assistance; and | ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Brett's First Responders, to date, has donated | ||||||
| 6 | over $215,000 to 45 families of first responders and eight | ||||||
| 7 | fire cadet programs; therefore, be it | ||||||
| 8 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 9 | HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 10 | we recognize Brett's First Responders on its unrelenting | ||||||
| 11 | commitment to serve and assist families of first responders | ||||||
| 12 | facing tragedy and financial hardship, and we commend the | ||||||
| 13 | organization for continuing the legacy of service of its | ||||||
| 14 | namesake, Firefighter Brett A. Korves of the Swansea Fire | ||||||
| 15 | Department; and be it further | ||||||
| 16 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 17 | presented to Brett's First Responders as an expression of our | ||||||
| 18 | esteem and respect. | ||||||
