| Proposes to amend the Legislature Article and the Executive Article of the Illinois Constitution. Provides that a person may not be elected to the office of State Senator, the office of State Representative, or any single Executive Branch office for terms totaling more than 20 years in each office. Provides that service before the date of the adoption of the amendment shall be considered in the calculation of a person's service. Provides that any person in office at the time of the adoption of the amendment who meets the specified term limitation shall be allowed to complete his or her term of office. |

| 5 | | SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that there shall be submitted to the |
| 6 | | electors of the State for adoption or rejection at the general |
| 7 | | election next occurring at least 6 months after the adoption |
| 8 | | of this resolution a proposition to amend Article V of the |
| 9 | | Illinois Constitution by changing Section 2 as follows: |

| 13 | | SECTION 2.5. TERM LIMITS. |
| 14 | | A person may not be elected to the office of State Senator |

| 17 | | adoption of this amendment shall be considered in the |
| 18 | | calculation of a person's service. Any person in office at the |

| 3 | | SECTION 2. TERMS |
| 4 | | (a) These elected officers of the Executive Branch shall |
| 5 | | hold office for four years beginning on the second Monday of |
| 6 | | January after their election and, except in the case of the |
| 7 | | Lieutenant Governor, until their successors are qualified. |
| 8 | | They shall be elected at the general election in 1978 and every |
| 9 | | four years thereafter. |
| 10 | | (b) A person may not be elected to any single office of the |
| 11 | | Executive Branch for terms totaling more than 20 years in each |
| 12 | | office. Service before the date of the adoption of this |
| 13 | | amendment shall be considered in the calculation of a person's |
| 14 | | service. Any person in office at the time of the adoption of |
| 15 | | this amendment who meets the term limitation set forth in this |
| 16 | | subsection shall be allowed to complete his or her term of |
| 17 | | office. |

| 20 | | This Constitutional Amendment takes effect upon being |
| 21 | | declared adopted in accordance with Section 7 of the Illinois |
| 22 | | Constitutional Amendment Act. |
