AN ACT concerning the regulation of professions.
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
represented in the General Assembly:
Section 5. The Nursing and Advanced Practice Nursing Act
is amended by adding Section 5-21 as follows:
(225 ILCS 65/5-21 new)
Sec. 5-21. No registered nurse or licensed practical
nurse may perform refractions and other determinations of
visual function or eye health diagnosis. A registered nurse
or licensed practical nurse may participate in these
activities with the direct on-site supervision of an
optometrist licensed under the Illinois Optometric Practice
Act of 1987 or a physician licensed to practice medicine in
all its branches under the Medical Practice Act of 1987.
Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
becoming law.
