    AN ACT concerning criminal law.
 
    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
represented in the General Assembly:
 
    Section 5. The Criminal Identification Act is amended by
adding Section 9.5 as follows:
 
    (20 ILCS 2630/9.5 new)
    Sec. 9.5. Material for DNA fingerprint analysis. Every
county medical examiner and coroner shall provide to the
Department a sample of dried blood and buccal specimens (tissue
may be submitted if no uncontaminated blood or buccal specimens
can be obtained) from a dead body for DNA fingerprint analysis
if the Department notifies the medical examiner or coroner that
the Department has determined that providing that sample may be
useful for law enforcement purposes in a criminal
investigation. In addition, if a local law enforcement agency
notifies a county medical examiner or coroner that such a
sample would be useful in a criminal examination, the county
medical examiner or coroner shall provide a sample to the local
law enforcement agency for submission to the Department.
