 1                          SENATE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The members of the Senate are saddened to  learn
 3    of  the  death  of Jasper Ford who passed away June 30, 2002;
 4    and

 5        WHEREAS, Mr. Ford was  the  last  child  born  of  eleven
 6    children  on  April  20,  1911,  to  Shephard Ford and Mattie
 7    Walker in McCraven Hill, Mississippi; he received his  formal
 8    education and was baptized at an early age in McCraven; and

 9        WHEREAS,  Mr.  Ford married Lona Mae Martin in Greenwood,
10    Mississippi, in his younger years and remained a  caring  and
11    dedicated husband; and

12        WHEREAS,  Mr.  Ford  was  a faithful member of Tabernacle
13    M.B. Church for over  fifty  years  under  the  pastorate  of
14    Reverend  Dr. Louis Rawls; his passion was Sunday School, and
15    he was an avid Bible scholar; not only was Mr. Ford a  Sunday
16    School   teacher  at  Tabernacle,  but  he  also  shared  his
17    Christian knowledge with others as a guest lecturer at  other
18    church schools; he was a power house of wisdom; and

19        WHEREAS,  Affectionately  referred  to  as  "Papa" by his
20    family and close friends, Mr. Ford will be deeply  missed  by
21    all  those who knew him and loved him, especially his devoted
22    wife, Lona; his two daughters, Earnestine  Ford  and  Bernice
23    (Walter)  Singleton; his mother-in-law, Rosie Martin; his two
24    sisters-in-law, Betty (August) Anderson and  Charity  Dewitt;
25    his  two  brothers-in-law,  attorney Bennie Martin and George
26    Johnson; his  daughter-in-law,  Laverne  McDonald;  his  five
27    grandchildren,  Alene  Caldwell,  Guy  McDonald  III,  Shawna
28    Harrington,   Brock  Singleton,  and  Latasha  McDonald;  his
29    special care givers for whom he  was  quite  fond,  including
30    Latasha  McDonald, Debra McGeachy and Brenda Covington; and a
31    host  of  great-grandchildren,  nieces,  nephews,  and  other
32    relatives and friends, including Beatrice  Brody;  therefore,

 2        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  SENATE  OF  THE NINETY-SECOND GENERAL
 3    ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along  with
 4    his family and friends, the passing of Jasper Ford; and be it
 5    further

 6        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
 7    presented to the family  of  Jasper  Ford  with  our  sincere
 8    condolences.
