 1                          SENATE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The members  of  the  Illinois  Senate  wish  to
 3    express  their  sincere condolences to the family and friends
 4    of Donald W. Clark, who passed away on April 4, 2001; and

 5        WHEREAS, Donald W. Clark was born on August 31, 1925,  in
 6    Geneva,  Illinois, to William H. "Scoop" and Stella Clark; he
 7    was a lifelong Batavia resident, where  he  attended  Batavia
 8    High School; he also attended the Missouri School of Mines in
 9    Columbia,   Missouri,   and  Bradley  University  in  Peoria,
10    Illinois; and he proudly served with the United  States  Army
11    during World War II; and

12        WHEREAS, Donald Clark joined the family's car business in
13    1946;  by  1950,  the business became Avenue Chevrolet; under
14    his leadership, Donald Clark brought Avenue Chevrolet to  new
15    heights  of  success,  which  included  moving the dealership
16    from its crowded downtown  site  at  the  corner  of  Batavia
17    Avenue  and  Houston  Street  out west to Randolph Road, just
18    prior to the commercial  development  explosion  on  Randolph
19    Road  that followed; on September 25, 2000; he celebrated his
20    50th year as a Chevrolet dealer; and

21        WHEREAS, Donald Clark  was  known  as  a  leader  in  the
22    Batavia community, not only as a business leader but also for
23    his  other contributions to his community; he was a member of
24    Bethany Lutheran Church, the Masonic Lodge, Batavia #404 AF &
25    AM, Scottish Rite, Valley of Freeport, Shriner of the  Tebala
26    Temple  in  Rockford,  the  Batavia Shriners, American Legion
27    Post #504, the Batavia  VFW  Post  #1197,  a  member  of  the
28    Batavia  Rotary,  and  a Paul Harris fellow; he served on the
29    Batavia Library Board for  18  years,  the  Batavia  Planning
30    Commission,  and  as  president  of  the  Batavia  Chamber of
31    Commerce; he was a life  member  of  the  Batavia  Historical
32    Society and a member of the BOYES Club; and

 1        WHEREAS, Donald Clark shared a deep interest in Batavia's
 2    development  and progress; in addition, he enjoyed traveling,
 3    the morning coffee hour at The Elms in Batavia, fishing trips
 4    to Canada and Wisconsin, playing golf, reading,  and  playing
 5    bridge;  he  was  also an avid Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears
 6    fan, a Batavia Sports Booster, a NASCAR  fan,  and  loved  to
 7    watch his family participate in school sports; and

 8        WHEREAS,  The  passing  of Donald W. Clark will be deeply
 9    felt by all who knew and  loved  him,  especially  his  wife,
10    Margie;  his son, John W. (wife, Karol) Clark; his daughters,
11    Anne (husband,  Dave)  Leatherberry,  Amy  Knudsen,  Virginia
12    (husband,   Larry)   Lorenz,   and   Jane   (husband,   Jeff)
13    Grigg-Hauser;  his  grandchildren,  John  D. Clark, Katharine
14    Clark, James Clark, Jennifer Clark,  Elizabeth  Leatherberry,
15    Laura   Leatherberry,  Esther  Knudsen,  John  Knudsen,  IV.,
16    Maragret Knudsen, and Clark Grigg; therefore, be it

17        RESOLVED, BY THE  SENATE  OF  THE  NINETY-SECOND  GENERAL
18    ASSEMBLY  OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
19    all who knew him, the death of Donald W.  Clark  of  Batavia,
20    Illinois; and be it further

21        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
22    presented to the family of Donald W. Clark with  our  sincere
23    condolences.
