1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, There are over 1,430 townships in Illinois
3 serving a majority of Illinois citizens throughout the State;
4 and
5 WHEREAS, Township government is the local government
6 closest to the people in Illinois providing services not
7 otherwise available; and
8 WHEREAS, Townships serve residents of unincorporated
9 areas by providing essential services such as roads, social
10 services, and transportation and may also provide specialized
11 services including youth and senior services, health care,
12 recycling, and libraries; and
13 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SECOND
14 GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, That the Senate
15 Task Force on Township Government is hereby created to be
16 composed of seven members, four appointed by the Senate
17 President and three appointed by the Senate Minority Leader;
18 and be it further
19 RESOLVED, The seven members of the Task Force shall be
20 members of the Illinois State Senate (one of whom shall be
21 designated as the Chairperson by the Senate President); and
22 be it further
23 RESOLVED, That the Task Force shall examine various
24 issues relating to township government including, but not
25 limited to: modernizing township operations, streamlining
26 provision of service, and improving government programs, and
27 be it further
28 RESOLVED, That the Task Force on Township Government
29 shall submit a final report to the Senate on or before
30 December 31, 2001.
