 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS,  The  members   of   the   Illinois   House   of
 3    Representatives  are honored to recognize milestone events in
 4    the lives of the citizens of the State of Illinois; and

 5        WHEREAS, It has come  to  our  attention  that  Elizabeth
 6    Aldridge  is  retiring after a 47-year teaching career at the
 7    Illinois School for the Visually Impaired; and

 8        WHEREAS, Mrs. Aldridge began her teaching career  at  the
 9    Illinois School for the Visually Impaired in 1954; and

10        WHEREAS,  Mrs.  Aldridge  is an accomplished vocalist and
11    music lover who integrates music into her  regular  classroom
12    routine;  her  students  are  exposed  to a myriad of musical
13    styles and begin learning to make music of  their  own  using
14    simple instruments; and

15        WHEREAS,  Mrs.  Aldridge's dedication to her students has
16    led her to write and Braille several books; over  the  years,
17    she  has personally adapted numerous toys and school supplies
18    to meet the educational needs of her students;  even  on  her
19    well-deserved  vacations, she is constantly looking for items
20    she can bring back to her  classroom  to  help  the  children
21    understand different parts of the world; and

22        WHEREAS,  Life  skills  are  an  important  part  of  the
23    instruction  for  visually impaired children; after 47 years,
24    Mrs. Aldridge has developed a style of teaching  that  is  at
25    the  same  time  both  strict  and adaptable; her no-nonsense
26    approach has helped many children  develop  self-help  skills
27    that most sighted children acquire simply by watching others;
28    yet  she  is flexible when the situation calls for it, making
29    sure the children have fun learning; and

30        WHEREAS, The teaching profession has  changed  enormously
31    over the past 47 years, yet Mrs. Aldridge's dedication to her

 1    students and love for teaching has not wavered; therefore, be
 2    it

 3        RESOLVED,   BY   THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES  OF  THE
 4    NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
 5    we congratulate Elizabeth Aldridge on her retirement after  a
 6    47-year  teaching  career  at  the  Illinois  School  for the
 7    Visually Impaired and we wish her well in all of  her  future
 8    endeavors; and be it further

 9        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
10    presented to Elizabeth  Aldridge  as  an  expression  of  our
11    esteem.
