 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS,  The  members   of   the   Illinois   House   of
 3    Representatives  are  honored to recognize the heroic efforts
 4    on behalf of firefighters of Truck 32, Engine 109, Engine 23,
 5    and Squad 1; and

 6        WHEREAS, On March 22, 2002, firefighters responded to  an
 7    emergency  call for 2442 W. 25th Street located in the Little
 8    Village neighborhood in Chicago, Illinois; and

 9        WHEREAS, Firefighters of Truck 32, Engine 109, Engine 23,
10    and Squad 1 were at the  scene  without  hesitation,  putting
11    their lives on the line; and

12        WHEREAS,  The  fire  was anything but routine, being that
13    challenges such as the weather, frozen fire hydrants, and the
14    threat of building collapse were present; and

15        WHEREAS, Heroic efforts of  Firefighters  at  the  scene,
16    such  as  Lt.  Christopher Loper, Firefighter Roberto Herrera
17    from Truck 32, Engineer Michael  Vanek,  and  Firefighter/EMT
18    Julio Mendoza from Engine 109, are appreciated and respected;
19    and

20        WHEREAS, Firefighters become injured in the line of duty,
21    such  as  Firefighter  Patrick  Craven, Firefighter/EMT Steve
22    Dospoy from Truck 32, Lt. George MaAyteh,  Firefighter  David
23    Havanec,  Firefighter/EMT  Edward  Negron  from  Engine  109,
24    Lt./EMT Richard Kofski from Engine 23 and Firefighter Patrick
25    McCauley from Squad 1; and

26        WHEREAS,  Firefighters rescued three children who were in
27    the same bed in a second-floor bedroom  and  two  adults  who
28    climbed to the roof of the building to escape the flames; and

29        WHEREAS,  At  times, despite the heroic efforts on behalf
30    of firefighters, the outcome is not as favorable as  we  wish

 1    it to be; therefore, be it

 2        RESOLVED,   BY   THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES  OF  THE
 3    NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
 4    we honor the bravery and selflessness of  these  firefighters
 5    who, with courage, conviction, and skill, gave a great effort
 6    to  save the lives of the children of 2442 W. 25th; and be it
 7    further

 8        RESOLVED, That a suitable  copy  of  this  resolution  be
 9    presented  to  the  appropriate  parties  as  a  token of our
10    esteem,  respect,  and   sincere   appreciation   for   their
11    proficiency and bravery that was demonstrated that day.
