1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, It has come to the attention of this body that
3 the Reverend Oscar Carrasco has been appointed Director of
4 Connectional Ministries to steward and administer to the
5 Northern Illinois Conference of United Methodist Ministries;
6 and
7 WHEREAS, Rev. Carrasco was born in Curacautin, Chile in
8 1946 and has served more than 30 years in ordained ministry;
9 and
10 WHEREAS, Rev. Carrasco married his wife Joyce in 1972
11 and, with their first child in 1973, immigrated to the United
12 States and received a scholarship to Candler School of
13 Theology in Atlanta, where he was assigned to minister to
14 migrant workers at the border of the Everglades; and
15 WHEREAS, Rev. Carrasco received his Master's of Divinity
16 Degree in 1978 and served for three years in the mountains of
17 northern Georgia; he was later called back to Atlanta to
18 begin his ministry at St. Mark's United Methodist Church; and
19 WHEREAS, In 1991, Rev. Carrasco accepted an invitation to
20 become pastor of the East Side United Methodist Church in
21 Chicago; in 1996, he was appointed pastor at First United
22 Methodist Church in Oak Lawn, Illinois; and
23 WHEREAS, Rev. Carrasco has built bridges between younger
24 and older members of his Oak Lawn congregation as well as new
25 relationships between those who desire a contemporary outlook
26 and those of a traditional world view; and
27 WHEREAS, Rev. Oscar Carrasco gives thanks to God every
28 day for being in this country; he is a proud husband and
29 father and a leader in his community; and
30 WHEREAS, Rev. Carrasco's service to God has been an

1 inspiration to his family and his congregation, and it is
2 with great pride that we honor him; therefore be it
3 RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
4 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
5 we congratulate the Reverend Oscar Carrasco on his
6 appointment as Director of Connectional Ministries of the
7 Northern Illinois Conference of United Methodist Ministries,
8 we commend him for his dedication to his vocation, and we
9 extend our best wishes for his continued health and happiness
10 in the future; and be it further
11 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12 presented to Reverend Oscar Carrasco as a token of our esteem
13 and best wishes.
