 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS,  The  members   of   the   Illinois   House   of
 3    Representatives  are honored to recognize milestone events in
 4    the lives of the citizens of the State of Illinois; and

 5        WHEREAS, On December 12, 2001, Leonard M.  Skolek  became
 6    the  recipient  of  the  Bronze  Star  Medal  for meritorious
 7    achievement while serving as the Assistant  Squad  Leader  of
 8    Company  D, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment in the European
 9    Theatre of Operation on June 7, 1944; and

10        WHEREAS, Leonard Skolek served his country as Corporal of
11    the United States Army Infantry Division; as the 2nd  platoon
12    proceeded  north  on the main highway to Charbourg, the enemy
13    suddenly opened fire from the  right  rear;  Corporal  Skolek
14    returned the fire, killing five of the enemy; and

15        WHEREAS,   Corporal   Skolek's  alertness,  courage,  and
16    accuracy prevented heavy casualties to his platoon; and

17        WHEREAS, Corporal Skolek's exemplary performance of  duty
18    was in keeping with the finest traditions of military service
19    and  reflects  good  credit upon himself, the 505th Parachute
20    Infantry Regiment, the United States Army, and the  State  of
21    Illinois; therefore, be it

22        RESOLVED,   BY   THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES  OF  THE
23    NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
24    we congratulate Corporal  Leonard  M.  Skolek  on  being  the
25    recipient  of  the  Bronze  Star  Medal  and  we  extend  our
26    gratitude  to  him  for his faithful and dedicated service to
27    our Nation during a time of great need; and be it further

28        RESOLVED, That a suitable  copy  of  this  resolution  be
29    presented  to  Corporal Leonard M. Skolek as an expression of
30    our esteem.
