1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to recognize milestone events in
4 the lives of the citizens of the State of Illinois; and
5 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that W. Arthur
6 Parrish is retiring this year from the position of Vice
7 President for Instruction after serving over 35 years in the
8 areas of instruction and administration at Southwestern
9 Illinois College; and
10 WHEREAS, During his career at Southwestern Illinois
11 College, Mr. Parrish served as department chair, associate
12 dean, and dean of the Math and Science Department before
13 taking on the position of Vice President of Instruction in
14 1999; as Vice President for Instruction, he chaired various
15 committees and implemented the latest advances in technology
16 at the school's three campuses; in addition, he was
17 instrumental in reorganizing technical programs and restoring
18 the Aviation Maintenance, Agriculture, Aviation Pilot
19 Training and Aviation Electronics programs, as well as
20 expanding the Cisco program, occupational certificates, and
21 Distance Learning opportunities; and
22 WHEREAS, Mr. Parrish was recognized as the 2001
23 Administrator of the Year on April 23, 2001 at the Annual
24 Board of Trustees' Dinner; and
25 WHEREAS, Over the course of 35 years, Mr. Parrish has
26 developed an extensive list of accomplishments that has set
27 the standard for present and future administrators at
28 Southwestern Illinois College; and
29 WHEREAS, Mr. Parrish plans to spend his retirement with
30 his loving and very proud family, including his wife,
31 Phyllis, his children, Alison and David, and his three

1 grandchildren; therefore, be it
2 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
3 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
4 we congratulate W. Arthur Parrish on his 35-year career in
5 the areas of instruction and administration at Southwestern
6 Illinois College and wish him well in all of his retirement
7 endeavors; and be it further
8 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9 presented to W. Arthur Parrish as an expression of our
10 esteem.
